What she’s all about:
What Tor Teen release are you most excited for this year?
Ahhh how can I choose just one?! My top two are definitely Sightwitch by Susan Dennard (and I’m basically dying for Bloodwitch since Aeduan is my favorite character) and Blood and Sand by C.V. Wyk because female Spartacus? Yes, please!
What was your favorite book at 15?
At 15, I was (and still am) completely obsessed with Harry Potter. My favorite book in the series at the time was Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire but after numerous re-reads, I’ve come to love Prisoner of Azkaban best of all. Since Harry Potter is the obvious answer, a few of my other favorites included: The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty and the Gossip Girl series by Cecily Von Ziegesar. When I was 15, the young adult section at Border’s (R.I.P.) was only 3-4 shelves and the vast majority of titles available were all contemporary romance. I’m so grateful that the genre has exploded since my high school days!
What got you into vlogging and booktube? (and how long have you been doing it?)
I started my journey on YouTube in the comics field! I used to unbox collectibles in weekly videos for Midtown Comics in NYC and then I worked for a comics YouTube channel where I would recap television shows and recommend comics. While I did enjoy doing both of those, it made me realize that I wanted to start my own channel and talk about my biggest passion, books. My then boyfriend (and now husband!) was so supportive and he really helped me get everything started. I’ve been BookTubing for almost three years now and I’m so happy with how far my channel has come since I first started, how much I’ve learned in the past few years and for all of the friends I’ve made as a result of doing something outside of my comfort zone. It’s so wonderful that there’s such a loving community of book people to gush with over stories with!
What’s your favorite bookstagram prop?
Definitely bookish candles (I recommend Canterbury Road Co and Novelly Yours) and fairy lights! I love anything that adds more brightness to a photo. Both fairy lights and candles give off that special feeling of warmth and coziness, setting the mood for an ideal reading day! Ever since I started regularly using both, I’ve loved my photos so much more. The fairy lights can be a bit of a pain to control, but it’s worth it!
